Dear York University Alumni, Fellows and Staff:
Calumet and Stong Colleges, both affiliated with the Faculty of Health, are embarking on new and exciting programs to support the career development of our undergraduate students, as well as to support graduates like you of our Faculty of Health programs. Career exploration and support is an important request from many of our students, and we are hoping you would be willing to share your talents and experiences with our students.
So, we need your help.
You are invited to participate in an alumni-student event at York University on Wednesday October 11, 2017 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm (Dinner Provided) to connect with and mentor undergraduate students about their career choices. The career choices of our students are varied from health-related professions, graduate programs, management, law, teaching, and government, to name a few.
What is required?
Please attend the October 11th event where you can meet with undergraduate students who would appreciate talking/connecting with you, alumni, to talk about how their career choices. They will ask you questions about:
- how did you get to where you are?
- what is the nature of your vocation? what are the challenges and highlights?
- how did you decide to pursue this line of career?
- what are your tips to succeed?
- any advice on how to pursue my career choice?
Your participation is important to undergraduate students as they are trying to decide what to do next, and how to get to their dream career. From previous events, Alumni have valued helping undergraduate students who are in the same situation as you were while you were an undergraduate student, at a similar stage in your lives. As well after the event we look forward to your feedback so that we can continue to innovate and improve on the success of our alumni-student connection.
In 2016/2017 Careers Matter attracted over 80 alumni in health related fields as well as business, education and academia and close to 400 students have participated. It is clear that events like these are important to our students and that your stories, your knowledge and your expertise play a vital role in their success.
You cannot attend?
Whether you can or cannot attend the event, please complete the RSVP below ASAP as we need to organize the event and advertise to students who will be in attendance.
Also you do not have to stay the entire 2.5 hours. You can attend a portion of the time that suits your schedule.
